UP PLUS Automatic Control Device Includes Many Functions In One Package

ENERGYLINE SYSTEMS (Alameda, CA) introduces a new microprocessor-based version of the S&C Electric Company Automatic Control Devices Types UP, GP and VR. The UP PLUS Automatic Control Device offers a range of operational functions in a single package. Basic operation provides protection of ungrounded and grounded wye-connected shunt capacitor banks, and ungrounded wye-connected reactor banks. The LCD display permits a direct readout of bank neutral-to-ground voltage or percent unbalance and allows the user to set the alarm voltage or percent unbalance, lockout voltage, gross overvoltage levels, and overvoltage delay times.

Unbalance Compensation adjusts for inherent capacitor bank unbalance and optionally line voltage unbalance. The Lockout feature initiates tripping of the capacitor bank switching device to lockout the capacitor bank at a preset voltage level. The Voltage Alarm Level responds to a loss of a lesser number of capacitor units than that corresponding to the lockout level setting and, after a programmable time delay, provides local alarm indication, as well as closing the remote-alarm contacts.

The previously available S&C Type UP Device was a modular configuration, constructed for specific functionality. The microprocessor in the EnergyLine UP PLUS allows the engineer to select and program for all operational functions required in a specific installation. This allows the UP PLUS to remain useful even if an installation is expanded or changed.

The UP PLUS/VR provides automatic control of capacitor bank switching, in addition to all the features of the UP PLUS.

"By replacing discrete electronic parts with a microprocessor system," says Steve Isaacson, VP Marketing at EnergyLine, "customers have gained the use of all the Type UP options by simply making programming selections. This EnergyLine device gives you expanded control flexibility at a practical price."

Module Brings IntelliTEAM® Functionatlity To The Substation

ENERGYLINE SYSTEMS (Alameda, CA) announces the new IntelliTEAM Interface Module for Substation Applications, that enables the substation relay and breaker to operate as part of an IntelliTEAM system, with full team-member logic and communications capabilities. The IntelliTEAM Module contains all of the IntelliTEAM functionality and obtains all necessary information from the relay using DNP 3.0 protocol through its communications port.

IntelliTEAM now lets distribution switches and substation circuit breakers work together as a team and quickly transfer load to minimize the number of customers affected by a fault. The IntelliTEAM controls use true distributed intelligence and peer-to-peer communications to make their operating decisions.

The IntelliTEAM Module polls the substation relay for status and analog data, which is used for the IntelliTEAM process. The module exchanges information with the other team members as needed, via radio or fiber-optic link. All the fault interrupting decisions are still made by the substation relay. After a fault interruption or loss of source occurs, the module operates the substation relay and breaker to restore as much of the feeder as possible.

The faceplate LCD display and scroll switches permit local, easy viewing of team status without the need of a portable computer. A computer can be connected to the module and will allow use of EnergyLine IntelliLINK® software to view data, change setpoints, download logged data, and update the control software in the module. The DNP protocol and a radio, modem, or other device permits 2-way communication between the module and a SCADA master station.

Data logging capabilities facilitate analysis of breaker and team operations. Adjustable setpoints control most operating parameters such as automatic operation options, and address information. Programming, setpoints and data are stored in permanent, non-volatile memory for maximum reliability. The crystal-controlled clock provides accurate time-stamping of real-time data.

New IntelliCAP PLUS Capacitor Controls Offer Streamlined Sophistication

ENERGYLINE SYSTEMS (Alameda, CA) proudly announces the IntelliCAP PLUS Automatic Capacitor Control, specifically designed for the control of switched capacitor banks in electric distribution systems. This reliable, easy to use, and flexible device is ideal for both SCADA and stand-alone applications.

The IntelliCAP PLUS controls replace EnergyLine’s 1000 Series. They retain the original product’s versatility and high performance, while streamlining the electronics, using a more compact enclosure, and making installation and setup even easier. EnergyLine is excited to offer this improved control for a lower price.

The IntelliCAP PLUS control introduces a host of new features, including simplified electronics and mechanical hardware for improved assembly, maintenance, and reliability; neutral current/voltage corrective action and retry features; SCADA override strategy; tactile-feedback switches on the faceplate; and additional test points for sensor input, readily accessible from the front of the unit. Controls with 3-phase sensing include three voltage and three current test points.

These controls also standardize features that were previously available as options. The wide temperature range, 2-line LCD helps users easily adjust any setpoint from the faceplate. With a power supply and mounting for communications equipment now standard, the IntelliCAP PLUS control can include 1-way or 2-way communications at installation, or operate as a stand-alone device initially and be easily upgraded in the field. In addition, all software now includes neutral current/voltage capability; once a sensor is added, users can immediately enable the Neutral Current or Voltage Alarm.

The IntelliCAP PLUS controls offer several control strategies in a single unit: Voltage, Time, Temperature, Time-biased Voltage, and Time-biased Temperature. VAR and Current strategies are also available. These devices also include other automatic control functions, such as voltage override, daily limit of automatic switching cycles, and extensive data logging. Users can set up the control from the faceplate or via the Windows®-based IntelliLINK Setup Software.

"We’re thrilled to offer this product to our electric utility customers," said Steve Isaacson, Vice President of Sales for EnergyLine. "EnergyLine revolutionized capacitor controls with the introduction of the 1000 Series a decade ago, and now we’ve taken them a step further. The IntelliCAP PLUS controls show once again why EnergyLine has become synonymous with ‘innovation’ in the distribution automation market."
