IntelliTEAM Automatic Restoration System

EnergyLine is proud to offer IntelliTEAM, a modular auto-reconfiguration system for switch controls or recloser controls. Multiple controls work together as a team to automatically isolate faults and quickly restore power to as many customers as possible. The teams use peer-to-peer communications and distributed intelligence to make their operating decisions; no central processing or SCADA is required (although SCADA is fully supported).

The IntelliTEAM system won the Innovation Award for "Best New Product" at DistribuTECH '97.

As competition for large customers increases, reliability becomes a key factor in customer retention. Without investing in a large communications system, utilities now have a simple and flexible way to solve reliability problems where they occur.

The IntelliTEAM system can operate at all levels of system-wide automation, from one team to an entire DA program. The self-contained system can work on a small scale, and can expand as the need arises. Because the concept behind the IntelliTEAM system is not confined to switch controls, it has the potential to integrate different types of intelligent distribution devices into a common communicating and decision-making system.

Key features of the IntelliTEAM system include:

Distributed intelligence and peer-to-peer communications
Up to 7 controls (2 to 14 sectionalizing points) in a single team, at overhead, pad-mounted, submersible, and/or recloser installations

IntelliTEAM Gateways

The IntelliTEAM system works with DNP protocol and peer-to-peer communications. For SCADA systems with another protocol or different communications hardware, the IntelliTEAM gateway (a normal IntelliTEAM switch control with modified software) is available. The gateway also functions as a data concentrator. The SCADA master station can poll just the gateway, and then control or receive information about all team members. This is particularly important for older SCADA systems with limited bandwidth or a restricted number of RTU addresses. Utilities can incorporate state-of-the-art features into existing SCADA systems without investing in a new communications network.

PASS (Pager Alert and Supervisory System)

PASS works like a "mini-SCADA" system. Using standard telephone/cellular and paging services, a pager gateway (which also acts as one of the controls in the team) can inform selected users of events on the distribution system. Then, if necessary, the user can dial back the equipment to monitor additional data or perform control commands. The IntelliLINK Setup Software lets the user choose which events initiate pages. PASS can be added to a team that already has a SCADA gateway. Whether or not a utility uses SCADA, PASS is a convenient way to be informed of IntelliTEAM system operations as they happen.

Reclosers and IntelliTEAM

The IntelliTEAM system can also work with Kyle Form 5 reclosers from Cooper Power Systems. This provides even greater flexibility and lets you easily add more sectionalizing points to a team to help improve reliability. If you have electronic substation reclosers, for example, you can automatically restore up to 100% of your feeder if your substation goes down.
